Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World in 2022 — A Quick Peek
For a long time, Disney fans have waited with bated breath for the right time to visit Walt Disney World. It all started in 2017 When Disney announced a slew of projects worth waiting for.
The first of these was Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge and an accompanying Star Wars hotel. Both of which would offer epic immersion.
The likes of which could only be seen in the popular HBO science fiction series Westworld. In addition to this huge bomb drop, we were given a peek at a brand new EPCOT.
We were also teased by major new attractions, hotels, and finally the promise of two massive anniversary celebrations.
This led all of us to speculate about when is the best time to visit Walt Disney World.
After all, Walt Disney World vacations are expensive. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience for some, others can only afford a trip there every so many year.
Going too early could mean just missing out on major new developments. Visiting during so much construction of future attractions presents other problems as well.
Because of this, many people remained patient and waited. Then COVID hit and while some projects finished to a lesser degree than expected, many of those announced changes still remain to be seen.
Now, with the 50th Anniversary in full swing and 2022 coming into view, the hold-out Disney fans are right back where they started in August 2017.
When is the best time to visit Walt Disney World?
The Halcyon Starcruiser or Disney World?
As we know, Galaxy’s Edge has been open for a couple of years now. The Star Wars Hotel, the Galactic Starcruiser, has finally opened.
Among fans, interest in this project has definitely soured, but there is still a fair amount of curiosity. Whatever your position on the Disney Star Wars franchise, it is clear so far that a booking on the Galactic Starcruiser is not a proper Disney World vacation.
It is its own thing, although the cost matches the cost of a full Walt Disney World experience. If you have been waiting for the best time to visit Walt Disney World.
The launch of the Galactic Starcruiser isn’t it, simply because it locks you away from so much of the real Disney World experience.
What Has Come to Pass
Although much of EPCOT remains under construction, plenty of updates have made it to Walt Disney World in recent years.
The Disney Skyliner opened, connecting many of the hotels around EPCOT and Disney Hollywood Studios.
Coronado Springs got an impressive new tower and the Riviera Resort brings more Disney history in the form of an inspired European hotel.
Changes to the guest experience for better or worse have also dramatically altered what a Walt Disney World vacation looks like.
Mobile offerings reduce crowding and the loss of certain resort perks has reduced the need to stay within the “Disney bubble”.
The latter change, such as the loss of Disney’s Magical express opens up the possibility for a more diverse Orlando visit than previous Walt Disney World trips you may have taken.
What’s Still Coming (What Are We Waiting For?)
The two biggest attractions we’ve been anticipating have yet to open, but one is scheduled to open in the summer of 2022.
That is the Guardians of the Galaxy coaster Cosmic Rewind. Tron: Lightcycle Power Run should also open in 2022 sometime during the 18-month-long 50th Anniversary celebration.
So When is the Best Time to Visit Walt Disney World
Since The 50th Anniversary and EPCOT’s 40th anniversary will overlap in October, this is the best time to visit Walt Disney World.
Guardians of the Galaxy will have been open for a while, and much of the construction at EPCOT will be complete.
The Food and Wine Festival will be in full swing and Tron Lightcycle Power Run will presumably be online.
