Notes

Tips and Tricks for the Perfect Gravy

  • Don't rush the roux. The combo of flour and fat needs a few minutes to cook properly, otherwise, your gravy might taste floury.
  • Use fresh spices. Dried thyme and rosemary last a while but lose potency. Crush them slightly before adding to release more flavor.
  • Texture check. If your gravy is too thick, add more milk a tablespoon at a time. Too thin? Cook it a little longer to reduce.

Biscuits and Sausage Gravy Variations

  • Veggie Lover: Toss in sauteed mushrooms, spinach, or even bell peppers.
  • Breakfast Casserole: Turn this dish into a crowd-sized breakfast casserole by layering biscuits, gravy, and scrambled eggs in a baking dish and baking for 20-25 minutes.
Instant Pot Shortcuts: Brown the sausage using the sauté function and finish the gravy right in your Instant Pot for easy cleanup.
