The BEST Replacement RV Mattress
If you’ve ever slept on an RV mattress then you know uncomfortable they are. And if you’ve never slept on an RV mattress, trust me…you don’t want to.
With all the complaints about RV mattresses, you would think the manufacturers would put a better one in them.
Changing out the mattress is one of the first things we wanted to do when we bought our motorhome.
I remember the first night in our camper. When I woke up in the morning, I thought to myself...what have we done?
They say you should replace your mattress every 8 years. With an RV, you're going to want to change it out within 8 hours.
However, we weren't sure which one to go with. How were we going to get it through the door? Will we need a box spring, because RV's don't have box springs.
So many questions...so little time (to get a good night's sleep!)
And right at that same time, I received an email from Nolah Sleep asking if I would like to review one of their mattresses. I was like Oh Em Gee, you bet I would.
But What About Weight
I had read on one blog that you don't want to use a regular mattress in your RV because of the difference in weight.
A King size RV mattress weighs approximately 50 - 75 lbs. A 10" original King Size Nolah Sleep Mattress weighs only 87 lbs.
Considering the GVWR of our camper, I'm willing to get rid of 30 lbs of something else, whether it's shoes, clothes, extra food, or stuff I don't use (which is a lot of stuff, 🙄) if I'm close to my total weight in order to get a better night's sleep.
Why a Nolah Mattress as a Replacement RV Mattress
A Nolah Mattress is perfect for side sleepers and back sleepers. While I very rarely sleep on my back, I almost always sleep on my side.
With 2 inches of AirFoam™, a 1 inch support layer, followed by 7 inches of the best U.S. made high-density breathable base foam, all wrapped up in a snow-white Tencel™ cellulosic cover. Helping you to sleep soundly through the night.
The Nolah mattress provides 4x pressure relief because it's not memory foam, it's AirFoam™. Plus it keeps you cool because there are no heat trapping chemicals like in memory foam.
And it doesn't trap you in your spot. Did you ever try to roll over and can't because you're stuck in that one spot? Yeah, it doesn't do that.
The 10 inch original mattress has a medium firmness. Not sure if that's what you need? Then go up one to a Nolah Signature. It's flippable and has soft and medium.
Still not convinced? Then choose the best, Nolah Evolution, where you can choose from three different firmness levels. You can compare all of them for yourself though.
I toss and turn a lot because my hips have been killing me as well as my sciatica nerve. I attributed it arthritis and needing a total knee replacement and even got a cortisone shot last October. Needless to say, it didn't help.
Never for a minute did I think it was because of the mattress. I just went on my 'mary' 😉 way tossed and turned nightly.
And this is a mattress that can be sold in the Made in America Store (started in my hometown, Elma, NY) because it is 100% made in the USA!
With the Nolah Mattress, you don't need a box spring. It can be set directly on a flat wood platform, just as we did.
Testing Out a New Mattress
While the days of going to a store and jumping (not really jumping) from mattress to mattress, (because no one wants to do that during a pandemic anyway) are long gone, what if you don't like it. Or it's uncomfortable, etc.
With Nolah Mattresses you don't have to worry about that. They give you 120 nights to try it out.
However, if you're pretty sure you are going to like it, then you can save more by opting out of the 120 days return.
How Does it Arrive
Very conveniently honestly. It arrived by FedEx wrapped tightly in a box. While the box was a tad heavy, my husband helped the delivery guy with our dolly.
Once we took it out of the box, I had to double check to make sure it was a King size because it looked like a twin size.
How do they get that big mattress into such a little roll?
We got rid of the old one (that was fun getting it through the little trailer door 🙄) and put the new one on the bed (which was 1000 times easier!)
The directions are on the outside of the box on how to open it. READ IT CAREFULLY! You wouldn't want to cut the mattress while cutting the plastic.
It slides around easier if you leave the plastic on it.
Once the plastic was cut off, it started expanding right away.
We unfolded it and within a few minutes it was full King size. And it fit perfectly.
They do say that it takes up to a full 24 hours to fully expand though.
My Personal Experience with the Nolah Mattress
While this is just my personal experience and I'm by no means saying it will do the same for you, it has helped the pain in my hip.
Remember where I mentioned up above, how I thought the knee replacement was going to help my hip pain? Well, I had a TKR in April and the pain never went away after it.
But after sleeping on the new RV mattress for just one week, I could already feel an improvement. Everyday, it feels a little better. Yay!
And while an RV mattress is hard enough to make because of the limited amount of space in the RV, it doesn't help when someone else is enjoying the mattress as much as we are. 🙄😂
Plus, I am sleeping almost through the night (except when the dog wakes me up because she has to go out!)
My husband has been getting a good night's sleep too. (I can tell because he isn't crabby the next day! 😉)
Where to Purchase the Replacement RV Mattress
All the Nolah Sleep Mattresses can be purchased right online.
If for some reason you aren't sure if a regular mattress will fit in your RV, or you can't spare the 10-30 extra pounds, a little birdie told me that they are going to be coming an actual RV Mattress in 2022. 😍
We will keep you updated on this when it comes out.
