How to Make Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls
Preheat the oven to 250 and place the egg into a bowl of warm water.
Warm milk in the microwave and melt the butter. The bowl should be warm to the touch but not hot.
Transfer warm milk, butter, and sugar to the bowl of an electric mixer.
Add the yeast on top and let bloom for 5 min.
In a bowl stir pumpkin puree, room temperature egg, and the rest of the melted butter, until creamy.
Whisk into the mixing bowl with yeast, milk, sugar, and butter.
Whisk in bread flour, pumpkin pie spice, and salt with a wooden spoon until a dough begins to form.
Place dough hooks on the mixer and knead the dough on low speed for 8-10 minutes.
The dough should form a ball and be slightly sticky.
Place dough ball in a large bowl greased with olive oil or nonstick cooking spray and cover with a towel.
Allow dough to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size in a warm place (I set it on the back eye of the oven).
After an hour
Punch the dough down.
Turn the dough out on a floured surface and roll it out into a 14*16 inch rectangle.
Spread the softened butter over the dough.
In a small bowl mix brown sugar and cinnamon and sprinkle liberally over the dough.
Tightly roll the dough, starting with the smaller side, and place seam side down.
Use bakers twine or floss to portion out rolls for best results (a serrated knife can also be used).
Spray the baking dish with nonstick spray and place the rolls inside.
Pour ½ cup heavy cream all over the cinnamon rolls.
Cover and let rise in a warm place for 25 min.
Turn the oven up to 350 degrees.
Bake for 30-35 mins until beginning to brown on the edges.
Remove from the oven and let rest (if they rise too much press them back into the pan).
Make the frosting.
Mix cream cheese and butter.
Add in the powdered sugar and mix on high.
Add maple syrup and vanilla.
Pour over the rolls and enjoy
To make vegan: leave out the egg and add 3.5 tablespoons more pumpkin puree to the dough.
